Boot Camp Part 1 Lesson 2

Part I – Being a Christian

Lesson II The Nature and Nurture of a Christian

Since a Christian is a child of God there is a need for all Christians to understand their nature and as such and how to grow in this new relationship with their Heavenly Father. If a person understands what has happened and is happening to him, it will bring a sense of peace to his heart.

Thesis statement: It is the goal of this lesson to present Scriptural principles of growth.

So first let’s examine

I. The Nature of a Christian

A. Physical Birth
(John 1:12 13)

A. Spiritual Birth
1John 3:9).

II. The Nurture of the Christian

All this begs the question: “But how does the Christian develop or grow in this new relationship?”

A. The Goal God Has For Us
(1John 3:2).

B. The Nourishment God Uses to Help Us Grow

Most Christians want to grow, but in order to do so they must have the right nourishment.

(1Corinthians 3:1-2)
(Hebrews 5:12-13)

In Conclusion:

1. Since a Christian is a child of God, he will have God’s nature.

2. He is “born again” or “born of God”.

3. Just as in physical birth we bear the traits of our parent, so it si with spiritual birth…we bear our heavenly Father’s characteristics

4. Being a new creature, a spiritual baby, we need to be nurtured in order to insure proper growth.

Therefore, the new Christian should be guided first in the studying of “basic” doctrines, better known as the milk of the word, to grow and survive. And he or she should take advantage of every opportunity to hear and be taught by the pastor/teacher at church by attending classes that will help him or her soon be able to digest the meat – the deeper things of God
