Bootcamp Part 3 Lesson 2

Christian Boot Camp
Part. 3 Lesson 2

What True Disciples Believe about the Bible

What a person believes about the Bible is very important. His belief about
the scriptures will affect every other doctrine. The view of the Bible is really
a watershed in a person's life. If he is a little to one side he will eventually
wind up with unsound doctrine; if he is just a little to the other side it will
lead to ultimate infidelity. The purpose of this lesson is to acquaint the
student with what true disciples should believe about the Bible.

I. The Bible is Inspired

The Bible is confidently called by those who adhere to it "The Word of
God".
A. These Definitions Apply

1. Revelation.
The Bible is a record of God's revelation of Himself to man.

2. Inspiration.
The primary meaning of the word is "Godbreathed".

3. Illumination.
The Holy Spirit enables men to understand and this work of the
Spirit is called illumination.

B. God Spoke to the Writers of the Bible

One could hardly miss seeing this in the scriptures.
Exodus 3:4
Exodus 33:11).
II Samuel 2:1; 21:1.
1Kings 3:5
1 Kings 4:29
Amos 3:8
Matthew 17:5
Ephesians 4:5
Acts 9:56
1Thessalonians 2:13

C. The Holy Spirit Told Them What to Write

If all God did was to reveal Himself to men, even special men and then
leave it up to them to record the revelation the record would no doubt be
corrupted because men are not infallible.
Exodus 4:4
John 5:3947
John 10:35
1Timothy 3:16
2 Peter 1:21
Jeremiah 36:6
2 Samuel 23:12.
1Thess. 2:13
2 Peter 3:16
John 14:26; 16:13
1Corinthians 2:913

II. The Bible is Infallible
Baptists believe that it is ". . .truth without any mixture of error."

A. Verbal Inspiration

B. Plenary Inspiration

III. The Bible is Indispensable
Since the Bible is God's word and contains His revelation of Himself to man
it is indispensable to the Christian. We Baptists say that it is "a perfect
treasure of divine instruction".
